Could you benefit from a mentor? Drop-in this September

YMCA Plymouth has expanded their mentoring programme let Youth Hub members have a TRY for themselves:

T - talk about mentoring – what is it? How could it help YOU?

R – relationship building – find the right person for YOU

Y – your choice – what do YOU want from the experience Want to find out more?

What is MY Future Youth Mentoring?

  • A mentoring programme which helps young people aged 16 to 24.

  • During the programme you will be paired with an adult volunteer called a mentor.

  • Mentors help you with finding a job, going to school, and learning new skills.

Who will the mentor be?

  • A mentor is an adult who wants to help young people.

  • You get a mentor who has similar interests to you.

  • Mentors volunteer their time because they want to help the community.

  • Mentors get training and safety checks before they start.

  • The MY Future Mentor Coordinator supports them.

  • We will ask you for your thoughts to help us improve.

What will the mentor do?

  • The first meeting will be in a place you know, with the MY Future Mentor Coordinator introducing you.

  • The mentor will meet you at least once a month for about an hour.

  • The mentor will learn about your interests and goals.

  • The mentor will help you with skills like:

    •   building confidence

    •   writing a CV

    •   managing money.

Where do I meet the mentor?

  •  You will meet your mentor in public places like:

    •  your school or college

    •  a local cafe, library or public space.

Essentially, a mentor is someone who is there to help you reach your goals. They are your professional friend.
