Congratulations to Luke Kendall, Highly Commended for The Ron Simmonds Construction Trade Apprentice of the Year Award 2025!
Luke is undertaking an Advanced Level 3 apprenticeship in Fire Emergency and Security Technician Standards with Plymstock Security Systems Ltd, and The Focus Training Group.
Luke joined the company almost three years ago from a print and reprographic background. At that time, he was employed as an Electronic Security Systems apprentice and since then has continually exceeded all expectations within the role.
Most recently Luke’s trainers at The Focus Training Group challenged him further by entering him into the World Skills UK Security and Fire competition. In November 2024, Luke not only reached the finals but went on to become the winner of the overall competition!
Steve Kendall, Managing Director of Plymstock Security Systems Ltd said: “Luke has excellent interpersonal skills, is smart, attentive, and is a sponge when it comes to learning the technology and regulations associated with the industry.”
Luke's genuine passion for the industry is clear. He is described as punctual, someone who takes great pride in the way he appears and presents himself, and as being receptive to constructive criticism.
Luke has been a regular attendee on his Fire and Electronic Security Systems (FESS) course at college alongside two other students and regularly receives positive feedback from his college tutor.
Steve added: “In addition to Luke's technical ability, he actively promotes the value of apprenticeships. Luke always offers fellow apprentices support and encouragement with project work, using his journey as inspiration.”
It is clear to see why Luke has been highly commended for this award.
Upon receiving the award, Luke said: “It is fantastic to have won this award. I actually started as a printer and did a print apprenticeship, so this is a complete career change for me, which makes it even more special to have won. Having come to an apprenticeship later than the typical 16-year-old I was worried what it would be like, apprenticeships are so inclusive and have allowed to me to find a second career in Electronic Security Systems which I love. I can’t recommend them enough! Thank you to everyone who has supported me.”
