Congratulations to Luke Driver, Highly Commended as Building Plymouth Technical Construction Apprentice of the Year 2025!

Since joining the team in September 2023, Luke has proven himself to be an exceptional trainee, demonstrating remarkable leadership and technical proficiency. His commitment to excellence is evident through his impressive training achievements and his on-site performance. He shows a great combination of technical aptitude, interpersonal skills, and passion for housebuilding.

Throughout his apprenticeship, Luke demonstrated an exceptional learning attitude. With an interest in building his knowledge and understanding, Luke is always prepared to ask questions and learn from all team members, both direct employees and subcontractors. His curiosity and proactive approach set him apart from typical trainees.

Luke frequently represented Vistry at industry apprenticeship events, showcasing his confidence, communication skills, and positive attitude. His ability to articulate complex ideas and engage professionally reflects his potential as a future industry leader.

Peter Sadler, Managing Director of Vistry Cornwall said: “Luke already shows the skills necessary to go far within this industry. He is calm, well spoken, diligent and professional.”

Luke is prepared to go above and beyond, wanting to perform to the best of his ability. His passion for getting things right the first time promoted a culture of efficiency, quality, and integrity. He made a transformative impact on affordable housing through his exceptional work at the Sherford development. His contributions went far beyond traditional apprenticeship expectations, directly supporting the delivery of high-quality, affordable homes that will provide genuine opportunities for local Plymouth residents.

Within his first four months, Luke successfully completed critical industry certifications, including: CSCS card, First Aid, Fire Marshalling and more!

Peter added, “His journey is a clear embodiment of our culture of building better together, making him an outstanding candidate for this award.”

Luke's engagement with the Building Plymouth Rising Talent Network (BPART) demonstrates exceptional professional dedication. Despite challenging commutes, he consistently attended sessions, showing remarkable commitment to his career development.

With his positive approach to learning, it is no wonder his colleagues across various departments consistently praise his attitude and ability to learn. All great reasons for being Highly Commended for this award.

Upon receiving the award, Luke said: “I am grateful to have been nominated for this award and thrilled to have been highly commended.  I first came across Building Plymouth at an apprenticeship show at Sandy Park. I was just finishing A-levels and decided that I didn’t want to go to university.  Building Plymouth got me a couple of work placement weeks and introduced me to Tatiana at Vistry.  I have had so many opportunities through my apprenticeship and have been able represent Vistry at apprenticeship events now so a bit of a full circle moment, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to be able to do that before starting on this programme.”
