Case study: Ferdinand

This month our Skills and Workforce Coordinator Victoria connected with Ferdinand, an ex-Royal Navy reservist who has recently been made redundant and currently homeless and staying with friends. In addition to requiring support with finances and housing as a priority, together, Victoria and Ferdinand identified that he also needed support with CV building, accessing information around further training, entrepreneurial opportunities and job searching, to get him back on his feet.

After three visits to Skills Launchpad Plymouth, getting familiar with the free localised resource bank and opportunity mailers, and some communications back and forth with Victoria, Ferdinand was supported to sign up for Universal Credit. He also attended appointments with the National Careers Service and the Naval Careers Office and began actively job seeking.

Now equipped with information on local opportunities such as Alabare’s self-build programme for veterans, Enterprise Nation’s self-employment support, the Open University, and having made connections with the Federation of Small Business, Ferdinand is feeling grateful for the help he has received in order to take his next steps.
