Connecting with opportunities in childcare

Here at Skills Launchpad Plymouth we are working in partnership to connect local people with opportunities for skills, training, education, careers and jobs in childcare.

If you are:

  • passionate about nurturing a child’s development

  • looking to expand your options beyond traditional teaching

  • excited about engaging with young children and their families...

you could start a rewarding career in childcare and make a lasting impact on young lives.

Whether you are interested in early childhood education, running your own business, or something else entirely, our resources and connections with childcare settings and training providers will help you to succeed in this fulfilling field. Discover how you can inspire, guide and shape the future – one child at a time.

Can I work in childcare?

Do I have the right knowledge?

Knowledge is an understanding. It’s mental or theoretical, and can be gained through education or training.

To start working in childcare you must have a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification, which can be achieved through a college course or an apprenticeship within a childcare setting like a nursery or school.

Do I have the right skills?

Skills are the practical application of knowledge needed to undertake the duties that make up the job role. You can gain skills through volunteering, work experience or placements.

Do I have the right behaviours?

Behaviours are mindsets, attitudes or approaches that are required for competence, generally across the entire occupation. Being a caring person with a passion for the development of children is key for any career in childcare.
