Building Plymouth

Introducing Building Plymouth

Building Plymouth is a city-wide sector skills partnership made up of over 65 members, that is working together on skills, training, education, careers and jobs in construction and the built environment.

Established in 2015, this award winning, council-led partnership has a vision to close the skills gaps and skills shortages by attracting and creating a supply of people to match the demands faced by local employers.

Our Construction Coordinator, Morven is here to help connect businesses and local people with opportunities (jobs, training, apprenticeships) that best fits. We can also support those already in the sector to ensure they are connected and aware of the support and training available.

What are the opportunities in the sector?

There's more than meets the eye when it comes to this key growth sector - it currently employs around 9% of Plymouth’s workforce, with over 180 different job roles available!

Construction and the built environment:

  • creates where we live

  • where we play

  • where we work

  • where we shop

  • bridges the gap between cities

  • enables travel

  • and provides energy.

The city is facing its biggest capital spend investment in 25 years which means lots of jobs, apprenticeships and training options for those interested in the chance to design, engineer and build Plymouth. In fact, Plymouth will need an extra 38,200 workers in the next five years to deliver projects across the south west, with key skills shortages including Quantity Surveyors, Civil Engineers, Carpenters, Bricklayers and Electricians.
